NEW YORK—Millennium Hotels and Resorts is pleased to announce the completion of a $70 million renovation to its North America flagship hotel, ONE UN at United Nations Plaza, an iconic hotel situated in the heart of the International United Nations Headquarter enclave.
Preserving the architectural and design integrity of the original Kevin Roche-designed building, the thoughtfully executed renovation, encompassed all 439 guest rooms and suites, meeting and event spaces, public areas and the storied Ambassador Grill Restaurant and Bar. Design enhancements respectfully brought to life the original elegance and stature of the hotel that has welcomed world leaders, diplomats and heads of state since its opening in 1976.
A collaborative collection of interior design consultants worked on the project to realize the vision of the hotel including painstakingly preserving the hotel’s priceless collection of artwork from around the world.
“It was critical throughout the process, that we respected the history and heritage of the hotel,” said Joy Faber, ONE UN general manager. “Our goal has always been to provide our guests, many of whom have been staying with us for years, a sense of place and respite in one of the world’s most dynamic neighborhoods.”
With sweeping views across the East River and the New York skyline, framing such notable landmarks as the iconic Chrysler and Empire State buildings, the hotel’s panoramic vistas provide an unrivaled lens through which to view the city.
Throughout the renovations, and to complement the new guest experience, all 281 associates of the hotel underwent an extensive training program specifically focused on preserving and exceeding the delivery of gracious hospitality. Newly designed uniforms, together with carefully selected guest room linens and amenities, add to the completeness of the experience.
“The renovation of ONE UN underscores our commitment to a continued investment in our North American portfolio of hotels,” said Shaun Treacy, Millennium Hotels and Resorts president, North America. “The renovations across our collection support our goal of being the hotel of preference in each market we serve.”
