Gone are the days of standard hotel keys with the introduction of new high-tech innovations (see “Are Virtual Keys Here to Stay?“). A new trend happening, which recently launched at Four Seasons Resorts Lanai, is the use of RFID wristbands for room access. The Hawaiian resort will still provide old fashioned key cards, but the new black bands are ideal for outdoor activities, including snorkeling, surfing, SNUBA, hiking, horseback riding, golf, tennis, and swimming. The bands currently operate for key entry only, but food and beverage charging privileges will be added in 2015, with spa and other retail on the horizon.
