Although the new San Francisco 49ers stadium is set to open as scheduled next year, Joe Montana’s proposed hotel located across the street from the sports facility has been delayed.
According to the San Jose Mercury News, Montana and his business partners have been unable to reach a deal with Santa Clara officials on the value of the city-owned land they plan to build on. Other area development has more planning and design requirements for the hotel.
Mayor Jamie Matthews told the Mercury News that he is optimistic that the project will still move forward, saying: “Would I like to have everything done today? Absolutely. But it’ll be a wonderful project. I don’t think the star power of Joe Montana will ever subside. He’s one of the legendary figures of all time.”
