During the competition, the Educational Institute also honored Janelle Cambridge-Johnson from Anatol Rodger High School in the Bahamas with the 2014 Lamp of Knowledge Award for Outstanding High School Teacher. Carl Schmidt (Monta Vista High School, Cupertino, Calif.), Pat Novalis (Mid-Florida Tech, Orlando, Fla.), and Michelle Aldrich (Triumph High School, Cheyenne, Wyo.) were recognized as the 2014 Teachers of Excellence.
The success of high school hospitality programs like these depends a lot on the support and participation of area properties and hospitality companies. The hotel industry can support EI’s program in their local schools by hosting hotel tours, providing guest speakers in the classroom, offering internships, providing sponsorship dollars for teams to compete in the International Competition, and much more.
