The American Hotel and Lodging Association (AHLA) today announced the release of its 2018 Policy Guide. The guide highlights the key advocacy issues for the hotel industry along with AHLA’s positions on those issues. Advocating on behalf of an industry that supports 8 million jobs across the country and $1.1 trillion in U.S. sales, AHLA seeks to advance policies that foster growth, job creation, travel and tourism promotion, and economic opportunities.
Key priorities outlines in this year’s guide include: protecting hotel guests and consumers by cracking down on websites that pose as hotels to stop online booking scams; reining in illegal hotels and advocating for a level and legal playing field within the lodging sector, including greater enforcement of regulations and taxes on short-term rentals; supporting the industry’s workforce, protecting the franchise model, and codifying the definition of joint employer; and promoting travel and tourism and, specifically, reversing the recent downturn in international visitors to the United States.
