NEW YORK—Ian Schrager returns to London for the first time in 15 years with The London Edition. The hotel marks the latest from Edition Hotels, the brand Schrager conceived in a partnership with Marriott International.
The property will take over the former Berners Hotel and will include a dance club, two bars, a 24-hour fitness facility and 173 wood paneled rooms and suites.
Originally built in 1835 as five townhouses, the buildings were combined to form the Berners Hotel in 1908. The London Edition will feature design elements such as a lobby atrium with marble floors, walls, and corner bar that have all been restored and are original to the hotel. Other design highlights include Christian Liaigre black metal furniture, Salvador Dali inspired floor lamps, and chandeliers inspired by NYC’s Grand Central Station which are suspended over the tables in Berner’s Tavern.
The hotel’s rooms are paneled in dark walnut or light oak and furnished with tufted slipper-chairs by George Smith, a minimal color palette, and gilt-framed artwork by photographer Hendrik Kerstens.
