Mobile Trends to Watch This Year

In 2016 and beyond, mobile technology’s presence in the hospitality industry will have a major impact on hotels’ day-to-day processes. Here are some major trends to watch this year.

Mobile locks. While using a mobile phone as a room key is no longer a new concept, many major hotel chains will be implementing this technology in the new year. Now is the time to get on board or get left behind.

Using your phone to pay. According to a survey by Deloitte, 18 percent of Americans used their phones to pay for a purchase in 2015, up from 5 percent in 2014. This number is only expected to rise.

Apps, apps, and more apps. Allowing guests to store data about their stay on their phones via mobile apps makes travel easier and less stressful. These apps can let guests do anything from order room service to expediting check in and check out, and will be integral to providing a good experience in the years to come.

Push notifications. With apps comes the opportunity to reach each guest individually on his or her mobile phone. Hotels can send guests notifications about special events, menu updates, or even the status of their rooms, all at the push of a button.
