Coming up on the one-year anniversary of the Boston Marathon bombings, the city is getting ready to welcome record crowds for the 2014 race, which will take place on April 21. Last year, hotels near the finish line were heavily impacted by the tragic event. But this year, it looks like city hotels will be filled with fans, media, and runners who want to be part of the major marathon event.
The Boston Globe is reporting that area hotels are already near maximum capacity.
Hotels in the city of Boston and in Cambridge are already sold out. And the report claims that hotels outside of the city are already filling up fast, according to the president of the Massachusetts Lodging Association. A spokeswoman for Marriott told the Globe that most of the 3,700 rooms at the company’s eight Boston-area hotels are gone.
The event is expected to bring in 36,000 runners—9,000 more than last year.
