Tapestry Collection by Hilton Debuts First Hotel and Youth Service America Partnership

SYRACUSE, N.Y.–The Tapestry Collection by Hilton has launched a partnership with Youth Service America to encourage young people to improve their communities through the arts. The partnership will begin in Syracuse, N.Y., with the brand’s first hotel and conversion, Hotel Skyler.

“Underscoring Hilton’s global initiative to empower young people, we’re excited to partner with Youth Service America to aid in making a true impact within the communities we serve, starting right here in Syracuse,” said Mark Nogal, global head, Tapestry Collection by Hilton. “Hilton has reached over 550,000 young people through our Open Doors commitment and Tapestry Collection by Hilton is proud to contribute to the goal of impacting 1 million youth by Hilton’s centennial in 2019.”

The organizations have aligned to support young people through the #LeadASAP Tapestry Collection Spark the Arts Campaign, which will activate youth to use their “spark” for the arts to improve their communities. The program will award grants in or around Tapestry Collection hotel locations, with project ideas falling into categories of awareness, service, advocacy, or philanthropy. Applications will be accepted starting on June 12, 2017 from youth between ages 12 and 25 who are interested in supporting the Syracuse-area.

“#LeadASAP projects implemented through Tapestry Collection Spark the Arts grants will harness the creativity and commitment of young people to meet the needs of others,” said Steven A. Culbertson, president & CEO of YSA. “When youth find their voice and take action to improve their communities through creative expressions, they can make a lasting, positive change in the world.”

In addition to the YSA partnership, Hotel Skyler Syracuse is committed to sustainability, and is one of only five LEED Platinum certified hotels in the U.S., and 11 in the world. Owned by Woodbine Group and managed by Woodbine Hospitality, Hotel Skyler Syracuse, Tapestry Collection by Hilton, is an eclectic, 58-room University Hill hotel within walking distance of Syracuse University, Carrier Dome, and Upstate University Hospital. Built in 1922 to house the Temple Adath Yeshurun congregation, and later home to Salt City Center for the Performing Arts, the eco-friendly hotel was the city’s first to achieve LEED Platinum certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. Sustainability measures include room keys that activate lights as well as heating/cooling, which are then powered down when guests exit the room. Low-flow fixtures in guest bathrooms aid in water efficiency, and organic fabrics, low-emission carpeting, and non-toxic housekeeping products are also utilized in guestrooms.

Tapestry Collection by Hilton currently has 24 deals in various forms of committed development, including properties in Glen Allen, Va. and Hampton, Va., and an additional 50 deal discussions taking place.
