The Gordon Bar Opens at Sixty SoHo

NEW YORK CITY—Jason Pomeranc (co-founder of Sixty Hotels) and Steven Eckler (formerly of Wolfgang Puck and Union Square Hospitality) have partnered to open The Gordon Bar, a new destination for sophisticated cocktails downtown at the newly renovated Sixty SoHo Hotel. With design by Tara Bernerd, The Gordon Bar takes inspiration from classic uptown New York cocktail bars, reimagined with a modern aesthetic and the coziness of a private home. The bar team, led by Erik VanderWal and Francis Harris (former Pravda and Eleven Madison Park alumni, respectively), prepare expertly crafted cocktails such as Camp Oregon Fizz with Old Tom Gin, applejack, lemon, cane sugar, rosemary, and fizz and Russian Standard Vodka with teapot bitters, chili honey, and lemon peel.

In 2014, 60 Thompson was rebranded as Sixty SoHo, and has recently debuted its new look following a multimillion dollar renovation to all guestrooms and public spaces. The hotel first opened in the fall of 2001.

Since first opening during the fall in 2001, 60 Thompson was a pioneer in the luxury boutique hotel sector in SoHo. Over the next 13 years, the creative set flocked to the property, and the term “Sixty” was quickly established as part of the downtown Manhattan vernacular.

Sixty SoHo will also debut a new restaurant outlet as part of a collaboration with New York City restaurateur John McDonald (Lure Fishbar, B&B Winepub, El Toro Blanco, and Bowery Meat Company). McDonald and team will open Sessanta, a casual restaurant serving coastal Italian fare, in the spring of 2015. A longtime champion of the SoHo neighborhood, McDonald is working with Martin Brudnizki Design Studio (SoHo Beach House, 34) on the restaurant’s design.
