SAN FRANCISCO—Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants announced today it will enter the Milwaukee market with the management of a new hotel in the city’s Historic Third Ward district. The hotel will be centrally located on the northeast corner of Chicago and Broadway.
Slated for a 2015 opening, the new 158-room boutique hotel will feature an eight-story building housing a chef-driven, destination restaurant on the ground floor, plus a rooftop bar, fitness center, and meeting space. The new Kimpton hotel in Milwaukee will be one of the first and only upscale boutique hotels in the city’s vibrant Third Ward district. Originally an industrial and warehouse district in the late 1800s, the area is now home to Milwaukee’s emerging art and fashion scene.
The new Milwaukee hotel represents the expansion of Kimpton’s presence in the Midwest, including its existing four popular hotels in Chicago—Hotel Allegro, Hotel Burnham, Hotel Palomar, and Hotel Monaco—as well as the Grand Hotel in Minneapolis.
“We’re seeing a growth demand for our style of boutique hotels in the market and have been attracted to Milwaukee for some time,” said Kimpton CEO Mike Depatie. “We’re thrilled to be growing our Kimpton footprint in the Midwest. Milwaukee, in particular the Third Ward and its eclectic and artistic character, fits perfectly with our hotel collection.”
The hotel is being designed by Kahler Slater Architects and being developed by HKS Holdings LLC. The project will be owned by Chicago Street Holdings LLC.
