Heart of the House Tour Highlights IHG Army Hotels

FORT LEAVENWORTH, Kan.—During a “Heart of the House” hotel tour hosted by the American Hotel & Lodging Association (AH&LA), Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins (KS-2) toured the Holiday Inn Express Hoge Hall, which is one of 41 IHG Army Hotels located on Army installations and Joint Bases throughout the United States. This public-private partnership was established to improve the conditions and quality of on-post lodging facilities for service members, government and civilian contractors, military families, veterans, and civilians.

The “Heart of the House” hotel tour was led by IHG Army Hotels Regional Director of Operations Tom Bastron and Holiday Inn Express Hoge Hall Hotel Manager Michael Corral. The tour provided Congresswoman Jenkins a deeper look at the unique needs and demands military travel requires and the hotel’s commitment to supporting the military community. The hotel industry is vital to community stability and provides good-paying jobs and economic support which generates $424 million in tax revenue for Kansas’ state and local governments.

“The Second District is fortunate to have such a strong military presence with some of the best and brightest in the Armed Forces right here in our backyard,” said Congresswoman Jenkins. “Our service members and veterans sacrifice so much for the freedoms and liberties we enjoy every day. I am grateful that public-private partnerships like this one not only ensure service members receive quality comfort and service in one of our local hotels, but they also provide good-paying jobs to our veterans and military families.”

“Touring the hotel with Congresswoman Jenkins allowed us to highlight this unique public-private partnership that ensures our service members, veterans and their families experience a superb stay, whether they are on deployment, training exercises, temporary order or visiting family or friends,” said Tom Bastron, regional director of operations of IHG Army Hotels. “Members of the Armed Forces and their families selflessly sacrifice and serve our country, and there is nothing more rewarding than showing how we customize the hotel experience to best serve our military personnel. I thank AH&LA and the Congresswoman for their time and their support.”
