Convention Host Cities See Huge Spike in Hotel Searches

    As Cleveland and Philadelphia prepare to host the Republican and Democratic National Conventions, both cities are seeing a huge spike in their share of hotel searches. According to data from Hipmunk, an online travel company, total searches going to Cleveland are up 393 percent and hotel prices are up a whopping 148 percent from the same time last year. Meanwhile, searches to Philadelphia are up 265 percent and hotel prices only increased 13 percent. With security concerns causing anxiety to mount in Cleveland, however, some people who had planned to attend the RNC are choosing to stay away, and some hotels now have vacancies after last-minute dropouts.
