Building Diversity in the Hotel Industry

The Lodging HR & Diversity Summit is heading to the Georgetown University Hotel and Conference center in Washington, D.C., for its second year Oct. 29-30. The two-day educational event brings together hotel owners, executives, HR professionals, thought leaders, and academics in a campus-like setting to discuss the importance of diversity within the hospitality industry.

Last year the event attracted a wide range of speakers and panelists who made a business case for building hotel industry ownership and leadership among women, African American, Hispanic American, and Asian American entrepreneurs and investors.

At this year’s event, Hank Thomas, an original Freedom Rider and Marriott hotel owner, will share his hard-fought path to success as a businessman in a keynote presentation. Other highlights include a CEO panel about the importance of implementing diversity from the top down with insights from Arne Sorenson, president and CEO of Marriott International, and Steve Joyce, president and CEO of Choice Hotels International; success stories from graduates of hospitality programs; and valuable presentations from other industries about their diversity initiatives.

Check out the video above to see highlights from last year’s summit and get a better idea about the topics and discussions that this important event brings to the table.
