Mumford Company Completes Several Transactions to Close the First Half of 2023

NEWPORT NEWS, Virginia—Mumford Company, celebrating its 45th anniversary this year, announced it completed several transactions in the last few weeks to close a busy first half of 2023 and the addition of John James to the sales team based in Atlanta.

James brings over six years of hotel brokerage and commercial real estate experience to the firm. He most recently served as a senior associate with Avison Young’s Hospitality Group. He also held a position with JLL as an analyst in their Capital Market Group and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies from the University of Georgia.

“Our extensive knowledge of many markets, along with our relationships throughout the industry, help secure offers for our clients’ properties,” said Steve Kirby, managing principal, Mumford Company. “Adding John James to our team gives us a team member with substantial analytical experience. He has an established network of contacts in the ownership, lending, and franchise communities which are critical to the dealmaking process.”

In the last few weeks, the firms closed several deals representing a broad range of property types throughout the United States. Some of their recent transactions include:

  • Fairfield Inn & Suites, Cleveland, Tennessee
  • Baymont Inn & Suites, Madisonville, Kentucky
  • Red Roof Inn, Holton, Kansas
  • Chincoteague Inn, Chincoteague, Virginia
  • Comfort Suites Airport/Forest Park, Atlanta, Georgia
  • Hilton Garden Inn Lexington/Georgetown, located in Georgetown, Kentucky
  • Quality Inn, located in Beckley, West Virginia
  • Comfort Suites Atlanta Airport, located in Atlanta, Georgia
  • Quality Inn, located in Weston, West Virginia
  • Econo Lodge Naval Base, Norfolk, Virginia

“With the current uncertainty in the capital markets, clients come to us because we have a successful track record helping them exit their properties,” said Ed James, managing principal, Mumford Company. “We anticipate this uncertainty to continue throughout 2023 and are to help buyers and sellers manage their portfolios to determine if they should hold or sell.”
