The past couple months have seen a number of hotels receive a stylish revamp. Here are some of the most notable renovations that have taken place this winter:
Chaminade Resort & Spa: Boston-based CBT Architects has recently transformed the historic 300-acre hotel in Santa Cruz. The renovated resort and spa, managed by Benchmark Resorts & Hotels, features 156 rooms, including 44 suites, 12,000 square feet of meeting and event space, two restaurants, a pool, four tennis courts, executive fitness center, recreational activities, and scenic hiking trails surrounding the full-service spa.
Sea Island: The five-star Georgia resort has unveiled its new 5,000-square-foot Mizner Ballroom at The Cloister as part of an expansion project that complements the opening of the new Garden Wing, with 63 new guestrooms, opening this spring. The expansion brings added meeting space for private conferences, executive retreats, receptions, dinners, and meetings to the 33,000-square-foot space overlooking the Georgia coastline.
Avalon Hotel: Proper Hospitality, which assumed management of the Avalon Hotel last March, and interior designer Kelly Wearstler, who returned to the Beverly Hills hotel after her original design back in 1999, spearheaded a $2 million renovation designed to upgrade the boutique hotel. The expansion will feature a new Viviane Restaurant by Bombet Hospitality Group and executive Chef Michael Hung, fresh public spaces, 84 upgraded guestrooms complete with European oak floors, and in-room technology improvements such as Jawbone Jambox Bluetooth speakers and Keypr tablets.
Hyatt Regency Coconut Point Resort and Spa: Following an eight-week renovation involving two separate stages, the Florida resort now features modern and connected indoor meeting spaces, totaling more than 37,600 square feet, for both business and social events. Designed by hospitality specialists Seifert Murphy, the interior design features white leather furnishings and sculptures in multicolor brown glass, white coral, and ancient-style pottery. The 75,000-square-foot resort features two ballrooms, two pre-function spaces, eight meeting rooms, one executive boardroom, one meeting planners’ office, and two technology nooks, as well as indoor and outdoor meeting space with capacities to accommodate up to 1,500 guests.
The Albion: The Rubell family-owned Albion Hotel of Miami Beach has recently announced the completion of a multimillion-dollar renovation of its public spaces and guestrooms. Interior designer Scott Sanders, who has designed homes for every member of the Rubell family, directed the transformation of the art-centric hotel. The artwork featured in the hotel comes from the Rubells’ personal collection, including a lobby installation of 85 works by Miami artist Purvis Young, as well as a series of nautical works in the guestrooms courtesy of artist Sabrina Baron.
Embassy Suites Seattle Bellevue: As part of Hilton Worldwide’s global brand of upscale all suite-hotels, Embassy Suites by Hilton Seattle Bellevue has completed a multimillion-dollar transformation under the management of Spire Hospitality. The renovation features upgrades to all of the 240 guest suites, an in-house restaurant under direction of executive chef Justin Reed, and a completely renewed space where guests can socialize in the hotel’s spacious atrium.
Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina: Under the management of Host Hotels & Resorts, the Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina is current working toward an expansion featuring a brand-new two-level stacked ballroom project along with Marina Terrace, a grand outdoor area right on the bay, together with the public walkway, Marina Walk. Following its 2011 multimillion renovation of the resort’s guestrooms and public space, Marriott Marquis is currently undertaking an estimated $107 million investment into its premium indoor and outdoor venues, increasing the event space to 280,000 square feet.
Doral Arrowwood Resort: A $4 million renovation program will bring technological advances and refurbished guestrooms and meeting spaces to Doral Arrowwood in New York. Two hundred of the resort’s 363 guestrooms will be refurbished, 58 of which will be upgraded to premier rooms. Spearheaded by Benchmark Hospitality, renovations will include new tiled bathrooms with vanity countertops, sinks, faucets, mirrors, and curved shower rods for tubs. Bedrooms will be decorated with new drapes, bedding, lamps, and lounge chairs. The guestroom renovation will be complete by May.
Sheraton Atlanta: Sheraton Atlanta has finished a $20 million renovation project that included enlarging corner rooms to create 43 additional suites. All 763 rooms were equipped with granite desktops, new nightstands, and upgraded bathrooms. The exterior also received a major facelift, with construction of the new outdoor meeting space, called the Skyline Terrace. The property’s Garden Courtyard was revamped to include a safer pool deck and new furniture.
Kimpton Hotel Solamar: Partway through the renovation process, Hotel Solamar has completed the renovation of its meeting spaces and guestrooms on several floors. Designed by Paletteur, the new rooms and spaces showcase Spanish contemporary design to reflect the history of San Diego. The full renovation is expected to come to a close this month.
