MINNEAPOLIS—DLR Group is proud to team with Developer Sherman Associates on the recently announced conversion of the Advance Thresher/Emerson-Newton building into the new lifestyle brand, Canopy by Hilton. Built in 1900 and 1904, the pair of buildings has been on the National Historic Registry since 1977.
DLR Group will design the transformation of the property into a locally inspired Canopy by Hilton. The exterior of the heavy timber building is detailed with brick and beautiful terra-cotta panels. The interior will emphasize the woven web of structural wood in soaring atriums filled with natural daylight. Hilton describes the project as “the energizing, new hotel in the neighborhood offering simple, guest-directed service, thoughtful local choices, and surprisingly comfortable spaces, so guests simply feel better going forward.”
The Canopy by Hilton brand is known for being uniquely local. “You really feel like you’re part of the neighborhood” said DLR Group’s Hospitality Leader Staci Patton,“Each Canopy by Hilton hotel tells a story and we are excited to be able to help bring that to life.”
This property is part of a larger mixed-use development that includes a high density residential development with a significant street level retail component. Converting all seven floors, approximately 135,000 SF, of the building from office use to hotel requires a complete renovation removing all interior elements down to the structural frame.
The hotel will have 182 rooms, canopy central all within steps from the new Minnesota Vikings stadium. DLR Group provided full service integrated design including architecture, interior design, mechanical, electrical and structural engineering services.
