DALLAS, Texas—Motel 6 announced the groundbreaking of two new locations in Pennsylvania/Greater Philadelphia. The projects are the first new-construction Motel 6 locations in the northeast set to feature the brand’s “Phoenix” design. The projects, located in Allentown and Wilkes-Barre, are both franchise developments.
“Our latest projects in Allentown and Wilkes-Barre represent the execution of our accelerated franchise growth strategy which includes expansion in the northeast,” said Dean Savas, senior vice president of franchise for Motel 6. “We are proud to work with our franchise partners to bring Motel 6’s new design to Pennsylvania.”
The Wilkes-Barre project is owned by Bipin Patel of Hotel Squared LLC in Winchester, Va., and A. Pickett Construction Inc. from Kingston, Pa. is the contractor leading the project. The new Motel 6 property will include 78 guest rooms. Patel and Hotel Squared LLC operate seven existing Motel 6 properties located in West Virginia, Virginia and Maryland. Motel 6 Wilkes-Barre is expected to open by May of 2014.
Mukesh Kadhiwala of Jay Jala LLC in Allentown, Pa., is the franchise owner of the Allentown project, and Jai Desai with DDG Construction of Rockville, Maryland, is leading the project. This will be Kadhiwala’s and Jay Jala LLC’s first Motel 6 location, among a portfolio that also includes Hampton Inn, Quality Inn and Super 8, among others. Motel 6 Allentown will feature 52 guest rooms and is also expected to open by May of 2014.
