Kimpton Awarded Management Contract for Shorebreak Hotel

SAN FRANCISCO—Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants has been awarded the management contract for the Shorebreak Hotel in Huntington Beach, Calif. DiamondRock Hospitality tapped Kimpton as the new hotel operator after acquiring the property, which was formerly part of the Joie de Vivre collection. This is Kimpton’s eighth hotel in Southern California and the first for the brand in Orange County, joining Kimpton’s portfolio of 64 hotels and more than 70 restaurants, bars, and lounges nationwide.

“Kimpton has a strong track record of profitably operating unique lifestyle properties throughout Southern California, including in desirable beach destinations, which made them a natural choice for us with this exciting new property,” said DiamondRock Hospitality CIO Troy Furbay. “We’ve been looking for the right opportunity to partner with Kimpton as the recognized leader in the boutique sector, and when this came along, we jumped at the chance to work with them.”

Located within The Strand, a mixed-use commercial development including retail, office, and parking on the corner of 6th Street and Pacific Coast Highway, the Shorebreak has 157 guestrooms, waterfront views, 3,920 square feet of meeting space, and a fitness center. As a Kimpton, the hotel will now offer signature brand programs and amenities including cruiser Public Bikes and in-room yoga mats, pet friendly policies, hosted evening wine hour, coffee and tea in the living room lobby, and more.

Shorebreak guests can also enjoy the full-service restaurant, Zimzala, with indoor and outdoor terrace dining and a bar and lounge area. Zimzala features coastal California cuisine with locally-grown produce, specialty cocktails, and live music twice a week.

“Shorebreak—with its unbeatable beachfront location—is the perfect opportunity for Kimpton to enter the booming Orange County market and expand even further into the leisure and resort sector where we’ve already shown great success in other Southern California cities such as Santa Barbara, Goleta and La Jolla,” said Kimpton CEO Mike DeFrino. “We are also excited about this management contract because it is the first deal to be signed since our acquisition by IHG last month. With their backing, we are able to fulfill our dreams of accelerated and more strategic growth for the brand.”
