Expedia Accused of False Advertising to Promote Partners

Expedia is being sued by a California hotel operator who claims the OTA buys search and social media advertising for properties not listed on the site, and then switches gears to entice customers to book a partner hotel instead. The complaint alleges Expedia uses false advertising, unfair competition, and bait and switch methods. Additionally, the proposed lawsuit details that Expedia advertises deals for hotels that are not bookable, only to say there are no vacancies when the customer clicks the ad. The site then suggests another hotel in the area. Expedia said in a statement that it is taking steps to investigate the allegations, and takes its relationship with hoteliers seriously.
