Today, Jersey City, N.J. Mayor Steven M. Fulop introduced legislation to legalize the use of short-term rental services like Airbnb. According to The New York Times, the law is expected to be approved by November.
The law would impose a 6 percent hospitality tax on the company’s users in exchange for allowing Jersey City’s residents rent from Airbnb or like-services.
The article says that Fulop expects the tax will generate between $600,000 and $1 million annually.
