Congress Settles on $1.1 Trillion Spending Package

Late last night, congressional leaders announced a deal on a $1.1 trillion, year-end tax and spending package that averts a government shutdown and funds the government through October 2016. The package reverses a 40-year ban on exporting oil while extending tax credits for wind and solar energy. It also pushes back by one year the requirement of all restaurants to list calorie counts on their menus and includes a House-passed proposal to that adds more scrutiny to travelers that come to the U.S. from the 38 countries that are part of the visa waiver program. The House and the Senate are expected to vote on the legislation Thursday.
