Chaminade Resort Gets Playful Redesign

Boston-based CBT Architects have redesigned the guestrooms and suites at the historic Chaminade Resort & Spa in Santa Cruz, Calif.

Jacqueline McGee, CBT principal and director of CBT Hospitality says of the project, “Our new design for Chaminade is playful, authentic, and memorable. We created a fun and interactive guest room design with our abacus headboard that speaks across generations,” she said.

“Games inspire and foster creativity. This design concept is reflected in the over-scaled dominos that become the room numbers and the crossword puzzles that appear throughout the corridors. We were also inspired by the history and craftsmanship of Santa Cruz. Bedside tables are woven drums used at the local tannery and the guests will melt into our oversized soft leather guest room chair. And eclectic blackened steel tables add to the vintage nature of our room,” she continued. “The deep red accent walls are the color of the tannery building. Layered images of old photographs showing the train that famously connected Santa Cruz to San Francisco, and the fun that was had on the boardwalk, were compiled by a local artist. These are hung in the Cosy nook that is the perfect place to meditate on our specially designed meditation mats. Our design also includes new spacious well-crafted bathrooms and open plan closets that enhance the guest experience.”

Nestled on 300 acres in the Santa Cruz Mountains and overlooking Monterey Bay, the AAA Four Diamond Chaminade Resort & Spa features 156 accommodations including 44 suites. Managed by Benchmark Resorts & Hotels, the historic Mission-style resort is an IACC approved meeting destination and features 12,000 square feet of meeting and event space, two restaurants, a sparkling pool, four tennis courts, executive fitness center, an array of recreational activities, and scenic hiking trails surrounding the resort. The Spa at Chaminade is a full-service spa and considered one of the top destination spas in the area.
