Report Shows Increases in Small Business and Franchise Employment

Small business and franchise employment both increased in August, according to reports from ADP.

The ADP Small Business Report, specific to businesses with 49 or fewer employees, found that 78,000 jobs were added between July and August to the private sector small businesses. Employment in the goods-producing sector increased by 12,000 jobs, and employment in the service-providing sector increased by 67,000 jobs.

On a similar note, according to ADP National Franchise Report findings, U.S. private-sector franchise jobs increased by 21,360 in August. Employment in the accommodations area rose by 2,650 jobs.

“Franchise job growth was slightly below the 12-month average in August, though it showed an increase from July,” said Ahu Yildirmaz, vice president and head of the ADP Research Institute. “A couple of bright spots were accommodations and business services. Both segments were well above their 12-month averages.”
