As of January, there are 4,084 projects totaling 496,184 rooms under contract in the United States, according to recent data from STR’s Pipeline Report. Nearly 49 percent of U.S. hotel room construction is occuring in the 26 markets with highest existing supply numbers, including New York City. Six additional markets that reported more than 10,000 rooms under contract for the month were Houston, Texas; Dallas, Texas; Miami, Fla.; Los Angeles, Calif.; Orlando, Fla.; and Washington, D.C.
