First U.S.-Branded Hotel Opens in Cuba Since 1959

    More than a year after the annoucement that the U.S. would begin mending ties with Cuba, the first U.S.–branded hotel has opened. Four Points by Sheraton is the first U.S.-branded hotel to operate in Cuba since the 1959 revolution, with its signage up at the military-owned Gavoita 5th Avenue Hotel in Havana. Sheraton plans to keep the hotel open as it is refurbished. The property, close to the Caribbean seafront, is the first of two hotels that Starwood Hotels & Resorts agreed to manage in March.
