Judge Rules Against L.A. Wage Injunction Request

U.S. District Judge Andrew Birotte denied a motion filed by AH&LA and AAHOA for a preliminary injunction that would prevent a $15.37 per hour minimum wage increase targeted at hotel workers in Los Angeles from taking effect this summer. Writing in response to the ruling, AH&LA President Katherine Lugar said the association remained concerned that L.A. hotels would suffer irreparable harm before the district court had the opportunity to fully consider the legality of the city of L.A.’s measure. “Already, the act is interfering with the collective bargaining process and giving unions a lever to use in organizing non-union hotels that, in our opinion, is not an appropriate use of the city’s legislative powers.”
