Sinkhole Partially Collapses Summer Bay Resort

A sinkhole, measuring 100 feet wide and 15 feet deep, opened up in Cleremont, Fla., and partially collapsed a building of the Summer Bay Resort, according to My Fox Orlando. The disaster occurred on Monday and sent vacationeers scrambling to get out of the sinking structure.

The owner of the resort, owner, Paul Caldwell, says one building, containing 24 villa units, was destroyed and 105 people were evacuated.

Geotechnical engineers have been drilling to see if the land has stabilized. Six to 10 holes were being filled with cement on Tuesday.

The resort is located just 10 miles from Walt Disney World.
