Branded Properties Prevail, According to New Report

    In a new report, HVS London has determined that more than half of the world’s hotels are branded properties. IHG, Accor, Marriott, Hilton, and Starwood make up 30 percent of the global branded room supply and 65 percent of the development pipeline.

    Franchising seems to be the preferred method of expansion, according to the report. However, it says the amount of such properties per region varies. In the United States, 85 percent of the research sample were franchised, whereas in Europe, 50 percent of the research sample were franchised.
