‘The Shining’ Hotel to Open Horror Museum

Honoring its horror film roots, the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, Colo., the property on which Stephen King’s Overlook Hotel in “The Shining” was based, has announced plans to create a horror-themed museum that would include a film production studio and film archive. Called the Stanley Film Center, the building will feature exhibits such as “The Walking Dead” based on Charlie Adlard’s work, reports the Los Angeles Times.

The Stanley is seeking $11.5 million of the state’s tourism funds to create a $24 million year-round destination.
