New York Hilton Midtown Opens Ice Bar

Summer may be hot, but the New York Hilton Midtown has a new way for people to cool down. This past weekend, the nearly 2,000-room hotel saw the addition of a Minus5 Ice Bar. Minus5 has other locations at casino hotels in Las Vegas, but this is its first foray into New York.

The temperature in the new drinking spot is just 23 degrees Fahrenheit and all fixtures and furniture were carved out of solid blocks of ice. Even the drinking glasses are frozen accoutrements. It costs consumers $20 to get into the bar, which includes the use of Eskimo-style gloves and parkas.

While we assume that this place will be hopping during the summer months as tourists and locals attempt to beat the heat, we have to wonder whether a bar like this can sustain itself in the winter, when it is already freezing outside. Either way, it looks like the New York Hilton has found a way to generate even more buzz after deciding to nix room service last month.
