Kimpton’s Mason & Rook Hotel Opens

WASHINGTON—Kimpton Mason & Rook Hotel has officially opened, becoming the only hotel located on the 14th Street corridor in downtown Washington, D.C. Joined by District officials, guests, and partners, Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants executives cut the bow tie-inspired ribbon and invited attendees inside the hotel for first-look tours and a reception.

The ribbon cutting ceremony included remarks from General Manager Donte Johnson and Nick Gregory, Senior Vice President, Hotel Operations, Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants. To honor National Military Appreciation Month in May, a colorful bow tie-inspired ribbon was used for the ceremony signifying the start of a month-long campaign and partnership with veteran-owned men’s neckwear line Bull + Moose. Specially designed Bull + Moose bow ties will be available for purchase at the hotel’s front desk during the month of May.

Attendees enjoyed light refreshments and bites catered by the adjacent culinary-focused cocktail bar, Radiator, spearheaded by Executive Chef Jonathan Dearden. The crowd was invited to explore Radiator, the new Exchange Ballroom, and additional meeting spaces. Small groups were taken on tours of the several guest rooms—some of the largest in the District—which included the Premier Spa Suites as well as Mason & Rook’s rooftop pool and lounge, set to open this summer.

Guests were met with tunes from DJ Neville C, D.C.’s very own Neal Becton of Som Records who spun records for guests of the ribbon cutting and hotel throughout the day. The opening also marked the launch of the hotel’s locally-inspired guest programming including a partnership with American luxury lifestyle brand Shinola, who designed custom Mason & Rook notebooks and monogrammed them for attendees. Additional Mason & Rook programming includes a Made at Mason event series with local tastemakers, on-call weekend Bar Cart, and “Game On” Night with General Manager Donte Johnson.
