Google Enters Licensing Deal with Room 77

    Startup Room 77 has licensed its hotel-search technology to Google, according to the Wall Street Journal. Room 77 cofounder and chief technology officer Calvin Yang has joined the Google team as part of the deal. Room 77 allows users to compare hotel rates across hundreds of travel sites, including Expedia, Priceline, Orbitz, Booking.com, Hotels.com, and hotels directly. Its technology will help Google remake its search experience for hotels. Prior to this deal, Room 77 had raised about $43 million from individuals and venture-capital firms, including Sutter Hill Ventures and General Catalyst Partners. Expedia also had invested.
