Driftwood to Build Dual-Branded Tru and Home2 Suites

MIAMI, Fla.—Driftwood Acquisitions and Development (DAD) and local developer Dev Motwani of Merrimac Ventures today announced a 50/50 partnership to build a dual-branded Tru/Home2 Suites by Hilton hotel in Downtown Fort Lauderdale, Fla. The $30M+ new-build—managed by Driftwood Hospitality Management—is expected to break ground in mid-2017 and is slated to open its doors by early 2019 serving millennial, leisure, and business travelers alike.

“Our newest project in Downtown Fort Lauderdale is the start of a long-term partnership with Dev Motwani and his team,” said Carlos Rodriguez, CEO and general partner of DAD. “This project will be the first to combine the trendy Hilton brands—products that are complimentary in the midscale segment. Building this property in Flagler Village—an area close to Downtown that is thriving and developing—will also give travelers the first Tru hotel experience in South Florida.”

The site of the future 202-room Tru/Home2 Suites by Hilton is conveniently located in Flagler Village at 315 N.W. First Avenue and is just minutes from the beach, Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport and I-95. Convenient to the Brightline express train and Wave streetcar stops, the property is within walking distance of City Hall, the Federal Courthouse, Broward County’s Administrative Building and Downtown Fort Lauderdale’s Central Business District.

When it opens, the hotel will feature stylish guestrooms with spacious bathrooms, creative work spaces, a fitness center, pool, pool bar and lounge, free Wi-Fi, complimentary breakfast, and décor featuring murals inspired by local arts and cultural events.

“Flagler Village has developed into one of the trendiest areas in Fort Lauderdale and has helped the city grow both economically and socially,” said Motwani. “It will be thrilling to break ground on the first Tru/Home 2 Suites in the area and we look forward to bringing another valuable asset to the community. Partnering with Driftwood on this project has been exciting and it’s the first of many more to come.”
