Crowne Plaza Dulles Airport Hotel Undergoes Renovation

ROCKVILLE, Md.—Jonathan Nehmer + Associates (JN+A) and HVS Design, leading architecture, interior design, and project management firms specializing the hospitality industry, are pleased to announce that they are providing Architecture and Interior Design services for the upcoming renovation of the Crowne Plaza Dulles Airport Hotel in Herndon, Va.

The renovation will include reimagining of the hotel’s lobby, club lounge, pre-function area, guest corridors, and 327 guestrooms and suites. In addition, the fitness center will be expanded and feature the brand’s new modern prototypical design, created for the Crowne Plaza brand by HVS Design. A new Starbucks market is also being incorporated into the lobby.

Located 4 miles from Dulles International Airport, the new design for the hotel embraces the concept Tailored to Travel; timeless, relaxed silhouettes smartened up with sporty textures and tailored patterns. From barely there to boldly featured, tonal takes and stark contrasts were used to breathe life into the architectural envelope.

In the lobby, a wood feature wall demands closer inspection to appreciate its full effect. From a distance, it has the appearance of a mélange textured weave, but close up the intricacy of the staggered brick pattern becomes apparent.

Keeping minimalism as a rule of thumb for tailored design, the floating desk reaps the rewards for taking a subtle approach. The monolithic stone desk appears to float off the adjacent wall creating an open and inviting reception for guests and community.

Bringing the concept Tailored to Travel into the guestrooms played out in a residential feel. The lines remain clean, but strong. Each piece exists only if needed; and while simple, its form is well thought out in its execution. Dovetailing the residential feel, the guestroom design features a curated art experience; art of different mediums, subject, and framing techniques; yet linked through the concept tailored to travel.

The hotel is scheduled to begin the nearly $7 million renovation in November 2015 and be finished in early 2016. The Crowne Plaza Dulles Airport is owned and managed by SharCon Management. First Finish is the general contractor for the project.
