Boutique Hotel Proposed in South Boston

A Boston neighborhood that was once plagued by crime may soon see the development of a boutique hotel.

According to the Boston Globe, Sun Condos LLC, an affiliate of Boston-based Pappas Enterprises Inc., has plans to build a 14-story hotel in South Boston. The neighborhood has recently experienced a renaissance, with new apartment complexes, upscale restaurants, and a developing retail scene. The $35 million hotel would include a restaurant, a separate cafe, and a rooftop pool and lounge.

“Hospitality seems like a great fit there,” principal Tim Pappas told the Globe. “We’re trying to provide a cool, price-focused alternative to the Back Bay.”

The project needs approvals from the Boston Redevelopment Authority and other city agencies. It would mark the first hotel to open as part of South Boston’s west side transformation.
