$50 Million Hilton Garden Inn Breaks Ground in Virginia Beach

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va.—Virginia Beach-based Gold Key|PHR Hotels and Resorts announced the groundbreaking for its newest hotel, Hilton Garden Inn. The Diplomat Hotel, built on the Oceanfront at 35th Street in 1930, has fallen to the wrecking ball to make room for the company’s ninth Virginia Beach Oceanfront property.

With an expected opening date of May, 2014 the new Hilton Garden Inn will offer 167, all-oceanfront guestrooms, including 24 suites, 12 executive suites, a new signature restaurant, indoor/outdoor pool, and 5000 square feet of meeting and conference space.

“We have done extremely well with the Hilton franchise in Virginia Beach,” said Bruce Thompson, CEO of Gold Key|PHR Resorts and Hotels, in an announcement. “The Hilton Garden Inn is a logical extension of our relationship with Hilton Worldwide and complements our various properties on the Virginia Beach Oceanfront. With the completion of the Hilton Garden Inn in 2014, we will have invested more than $200 million on the Virginia Beach Oceanfront since 2010. This investment is an important part of a 5-year plan that will ultimately add 1,000 new jobs to our local economy. Obviously we continue to be very optimistic about the future of this great resort city.”

The Hilton Garden Inn Virginia Beach was designed by H&A Architects & Engineers. Interior design is managed by Las Vegas’ Cleo Design. WM Jordan Company is the general contractor and financing was arranged by US Bank.
