U.K. Shakeup Raises Questions About Travel

    On the heels of last night’s annoucement that the United Kingdom has voted to leave the European Union, many are left wondering what this historic decision means for the travel industry. The British pound fell to its lowest level in 30 years, Prime Minister David Cameron resigned, and it is clear that many more changes are ahead for the island—but not immediately. According to The Guardian, new travel requirements for U.K. citizens visiting EU countries will need to be negotiated. Security in the travel sector will also experience changes, as safety in Europe depends on the cooperation of EU member states. But given that the process of actually exiting the European will take at least two years, the World Travel & Tourism Council has emphasized that travel to, from, and within the EU and U.K. will not be affected in the short term.
