Hotel leadership has the opportunity and the responsibility to promote a culture of honesty and ethics. If the tone of the organization is set by management that upholds the standards of ethics and integrity, the results will trickle down to employees, who are thus more inclined to follow the example. When upper management appears unconcerned with morals or engages in dishonest or unfair business practices to better the bottom line, employees are more prone to follow suit and commit fraud because they’ve noticed the company’s focus is on profits—not ethics.
