The Luxury Collection Debuts Twelve at Hengshan in Shanghai

SHANGHAI—The Luxury Collection Hotels & Resorts, part of Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc., announced the opening of Twelve at Hengshan, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Shanghai. This newly built hotel joins the legendary Astor Hotel in Tianjin, The Royal Begonia in Sanya and The Hongta Hotel in Shanghai as The Luxury Collection brand continues to grow its footprint in China. In the last year alone, the brand made its debut in key destinations throughout Asia Pacific with hotel openings in Chennai, India; the Blue Mountains, Australia; and Jakarta, Indonesia.

“The opening of Twelve at Hengshan marks the latest milestone for The Luxury Collection as we continue our journey to open a record number of hotels and resorts in Asia Pacific in 2012,” said Paul James, global brand leader, The Luxury Collection, St. Regis Hotels & Resorts and W Worldwide.

Situated on Hengshan Road, the newly-built hotel is a residential-style building within the city. The 171-room hotel features interiors by New York-based hospitality design duo Yabu Pushelberg. Some design elements include hand-painted Oriental screens, silk lanterns, and Oriental latticework. Italian architect Mario Botta, whose celebrated structures include the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, created the courtyard as well as hotel’s façade, which is made up of more than 20,000 natural terracotta tiles.

All guestrooms and suites, including the 1108 square foot Presidential Suite, offer marble bathrooms, deep-soaking tubs, and high-tech amenities. Additionally, Twelve at Hengshan offers a spa with 13 double treatment rooms and a VIP suite. The 2336 square foot spa also features a 24-hour fitness center, an indoor swimming pool, and three Jacuzzis with floor to ceiling windows.
