Delta Hotels and Resorts Named Hotelier on Thunder Bay’s Waterfront Redevelopment

TORONTO—Delta Hotels and Resorts has announced its expansion into Northwestern Ontario with a new hotel that will be constructed on Prince Arthur’s Landing as part of Thunder Bay’s waterfront redevelopment. The hotel is expected to create approximately 110 jobs, and is part of a private sector investment which also consists of two condominiums, and a commercial building for shops and restaurants. The Delta Thunder Bay Hotel and Conference Centre will become the city’s first 4-star upscale, full service hotel after a more than $20 million investment. Slated to open in early 2014, the hotel will offer 150 guestrooms and suites including 18 penthouse rooms and 10 rooms with terraces. Wyndham Hotel Group Opens 100th Hotel in Latin America

PARSIPPANY, N.J.—Wyndham Hotel Group announced the opening of the Ramada Encore hotel in Guadalajara, Mexico, its 100th property in Latin America. Wyndham Hotel Group is strategically expanding its footprint in the region, focusing its efforts in key markets including Mexico, Brazil, Colombia, Peru and Panama. With the addition of the Ramada Encore Guadalajara, the company now boasts over 12,000 rooms in Latin America. Wyndham Hotel Group reached this important milestone, in part, by developing strategic relationships with existing portfolios and established national hotel chains. Earlier this year, the company announced an agreement with Hoteles Costa del Sol to franchise three new Ramada hotels throughout Peru in Cusco, Tumbes and Chiclayo. Mövenpick Hotel Ankara Opens in Turkish Capital

ANKARA, Turkey—Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts is delighted to announce the opening of the 176-room Mövenpick Hotel Ankara, a new hotel based in the Turkish capital’s fast-developing Söğütözü business district. “Ankara’s success as an international business hub is helping to shape Turkey’s reputation as a global economic powerhouse,” says Ola Ivarsson, chief operating officer for Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts in Europe, in an announcement. “The city is the perfect location for our third hotel in Turkey after openings in Istanbul and Izmir and a great demonstration of our confident international growth.” The design of the Mövenpick Hotel Ankara reflects the curved shape of Turkey’s famous Nazar Boncuğu—the eye-shaped amulet traditionally worn to ward off evil—with a 12-story central atrium and glass ceiling that allows for natural light. Hard Rock International Announces Hard Rock Hotels in Shenzhen and Haikou, China

ORLANDO, Fla.—Hard Rock International announced two Hard Rock Hotels in Shenzhen and Haikou, targeted to open in 2015 in collaboration with Mission Hills Group. The 280-room Hard Rock Hotel Shenzhen and 250-room Hard Rock Hotel Haikou will feature Hard Rock’s rock ‘n’ roll design elements, as well as guest amenities inspired by its music roots. Hard Rock Hotel Shenzhen, at 22-stories tall and covering nearly 10 acres, will feature a Body Rock fitness center, signature restaurants, entertainment lounge, recording studio, and a nightclub. “The addition of the iconic Hard Rock brand is further evidence of Mission Hills’ powerful international reach,” says Dr. Ken Chu, chairman of Mission Hills Group, in an announcement. “As China’s only hotel embracing and implementing music throughout the guest experience, they will be a welcome addition to our unmatched selection of recreation options in Shenzhen and Haikou.”

Chesapeake Lodging Trust Acquires Hyatt Regency Mission Bay Spa and Marina

ANNAPOLIS, Md.—Chesapeake Lodging Trust (the “Trust”) announced that it has acquired the 429-room Hyatt Regency Mission Bay Spa and Marina, located in San Diego, California for a purchase price of $62.0 million, or approximately $144,500 per key. The Trust funded the acquisition with available cash on hand and a borrowing under its revolving credit facility. The Trust assumed the existing management agreement with Hyatt Hotels Corporation. In an announcement, James L. Francis, the Trust’s president and chief executive officer, stated, “We are thrilled to expand our strategic relationship with Hyatt and purchase our second high-quality San Diego hotel, which is located directly on the bay with spectacular ocean views. With the previous owner’s extensive renovation completed in 2007 and our planned $6 million softgood refresh, the Hyatt is the best positioned asset within the immediate marketplace.” The Hyatt Regency Mission Bay Spa and Marina features 429 rooms include 137 suites among its four guestroom buildings, with the remaining rooms averaging 400 square feet.
