Developers Jump on the AC Hotels Brand Bandwagon

With the opening of the first AC Hotel by Marriott in North America under its belt in New Orleans, the brand is moving quickly toward a possible 150 to 200 hotels in the not too distant future, according to Toni Stoeckl, vice president of lifestyle brands for Marriott. And there seems to be a sizable pool of developers eager to jump on the brand bandwagon, perceiving a product with strong appeal to a new generation of travelers. Marriott entered a joint venture in 2011 to develop the brand globally. At that time, there were 90 AC properties in Europe, promising a European-influenced lifestyle hotel that focused on design. Just ahead, according to Stoeckl, are openings in Kansas City in early 2015, as well as Miami and Washington, D.C., in the spring. “These are all in locations where we want to be,” he said. “For this brand, it’s really important to be in the heart of it all because that is where the consumer wants to be.” AC Hotels is looking ahead to the shape of the industry in 10 years, Stoeckl said, when younger travelers want to live and do business in cities—and will seek a hotel that fits their ...

NewcrestImage Acquires Two Hyatt Places in Texas

NewcrestImage has acquired two Hyatt Place hotels in Texas—the 127-room property on Dallas Parkway in Plano and the 126-room property on Hyatt Park Drive in San Antonio. They are NewcrestImage’s first Hyatt properties. Each of the two acquired properties has six floors, a fitness center, a business center, a seasonal outdoor pool, and flexible meeting space—790 square feet at the Plano hotel and 1,127 square feet at the San Antonio hotel. “These hotels are consistent with our company’s strategy of adding premium branded hotels in top-tier markets at attractive prices,” said Mehul Patel, chairman and CEO of NewcrestImage. The Hyatt Place in Plano is located along the Dallas Platinum Corridor office district. There are 40 million square feet of office space within five miles of the hotel, including the corporate headquarters of J.C. Penney, the Dr. Pepper Snapple Group, Frito-Lay, Pizza Hut, and Mary Kay. AC Hotels Celebrates U.S. Debut in New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS—Marriott International announced today the opening of the AC Hotel New Orleans Bourbon, celebrating the official entrée of AC Hotels by Marriott into North America. Originally founded in 1998 by Spanish hotelier Antonio Catalan, AC Hotels is one of the most well-known hotel brands in Spain. Following its success in Europe, a joint venture was formed with Marriott International in 2011 establishing AC Hotels by Marriott as a lifestyle brand within the company’s global portfolio. NewcrestImage Opens First Dual Branded Hotel In Dallas

DALLAS, Texas—NewcrestImage has opened the Dallas area’s first dual branded hotel, featuring a 181-room Courtyard by Marriott and a 120-suite TownePlace Suites by Marriott. The property, which is managed by NewcrestImage, is located on 10 acres of a 52-acre site owned by the company in Grapevine, two miles from the DFW Airport. “Having two hotels in one building offers us several very significant advantages including lower costs for real estate, construction, and operations, plus a wider audience for our marketing initiatives,” said Mehul Patel, chairman and CEO of NewcrestImage. The two hotels have individual entrances but share the same management and sales team, as well as the same housekeeping staff, with personnel having been thoroughly cross-trained about the distinctive features of both brands. NEW ORLEANS—NewcrestImage has announced that it will rebrand the historic Cotton Excahnge Hotel in New Orleans to one of Marriott’s newest concepts.
