At 10 Years Old, Hotel Indigo Continues to Gain Momentum

At 10 Years Old, Hotel Indigo Continues to Gain Momentum

Celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, Hotel Indigo is IHG’s boutique hotel brand. In creating it, IHG wanted to combine the design and service of a boutique hotel with the conveniences and consistencies a major hotel company could provide. As of the end of the first quarter, there were 57 Hotel Indigo properties open worldwide, with another 52 in the pipeline. Mary Winslow, director of Americas brand management for Hotel Indigo, describes the brand’s positioning further. How does Hotel Indigo stand out compared to other franchise brands? The hotels are meant to provide a refreshing local experience for guests who want to experience something unique and different when they travel. Unlike other franchise brands, no two Hotel Indigo properties are the same. We work hard to ensure that each is designed to reflect its particular neighborhood. How successful has the brand been in targeting a specific demographic guest? For the Hotel Indigo brand, we feel it’s more about psychographics than targeting a specific demographic group. Our guests tend to want an authentic connection to a neighborhood and have a naturally curious mind-set. Furthermore, they’re often well traveled globally and are socially conscious. They’re interested in the arts and science. Because ...

IHG Signs Nine Hotel Indigo Agreements

IHG Signs Nine Hotel Indigo Agreements

ATLANTA—InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) announces the continued expansion of its Hotel Indigo brand in top-tier markets across the United States, with nine signings in the first seven months of 2014. The hotels will be located from the East Coast to the West Coast in cities known for having unique neighborhoods with an interesting story to tell that fit with the Hotel Indigo boutique offering: Seattle; Baltimore; Austin and El Paso, Texas; Orange Beach and Tuscaloosa, Ala.; Gainesville, Fla., and two hotels in Atlanta, where the brand was founded. These signings are in addition to recent agreements signed in late 2013 for hotels in New York City, Miami, and Philadelphia. The Hotel Indigo global pipeline now stands at 56 hotels, with 28 of those hotels in the Americas, following the latest addition to the portfolio, the Hotel Indigo Cleveland-Beachwood hotel, which opened in July. The hotels signed this year are expected to open in 2015 and 2016 and are a mixture of new builds and conversions. Because there is no prototypical design for the Hotel Indigo brand, the concept works well for conversions, adaptive re-use projects, mixed-use developments, and new-build hotels. This flexibility is attractive to owners and developers, particularly those ...

Hotel Indigo Opens First Hotel in Cleveland

ATLANTA—InterContinental Hotels Group’s (IHG) Hotel Indigo brand has opened its first hotel in Cleveland, bringing guests together with the city’s distinct Beachwood neighborhood. The Hotel Indigo Cleveland-Beachwood hotel celebrates the Cleveland Metroparks system, a diverse network of green spaces dedicated to conservation, education, and recreation and fondly referred to by locals as the “Emerald Necklace.” “We like to think of this neighborhood’s green spaces as ‘naturally priceless’,” said Mary Winslow, director, Americas brand management, Hotel Indigo. “The extensive collection of parks, trails, and waterways beg to be explored and discovered, and we look forward to connecting our guests to this vibrant and unique neighborhood.” The Beachwood neighborhood story is brought to life within the hotel through murals of the local green spaces that make up the “Emerald Necklace” and the unique experiences they offer, including flowing waterfalls, colorful patchwork hot air balloons, and polo horses in action. Nature-inspired design accents feature wood, grass, and pebbles. Meeting rooms, named the Hunter Room and Jumper Room, and equestrian-inspired staff uniforms are a playful nod to the Hunter Jumper Classic competition held at the Cleveland Metroparks Polo Field. Prior to its conversion to the Hotel Indigo brand, the four-story 100-room hotel underwent an ...
