Based in Columbus, Ohio, Red Roof has a mix of company-owned and franchised units in its portfolio (130 and 318, respectively). To help differentiate its 448 hotels from other economy brands, Red Roof has introduced Red Roof Plus+, an upgraded version of the traditional economy-tier Red Roof Inn prototype. Upgrades range from a renovated lobby to higher-end mattress and bedding packages, flat-screen TVs, mini refrigerators, microwaves, new furniture, and spa-inspired bathrooms. This approach has been a great success, and Red Roof is consistently rated among leaders in guest satisfaction by J.D. Power and Associates. Red Roof has also been expanding the company’s reach outside of the United States. Last year, the company partnered with Glenn Squires to build and brand 40 Plus+ properties across Canada. And, in July, Red Roof opened it first hotel in Japan, in the Namba area of Osaka. The 224-room Red Roof Plus+ property underwent a $14.5 million renovation and is marketed to domestic, foreign, business, and leisure travelers. Beyond Plus+ design upgrades, Red Roof has improved the company’s WiFi offerings with a new “Verified WiFi” initiative that ensures properties have the highest speed internet and allow guests to stream on their personal devices.
