Puerto Vallarta Braces for Hurricane Patricia

    PUERTO VALLARTA, Mexico—Jalisco State Authorities have installed special operations in Puerto Vallarta comprised of federal police, state police and emergency personnel (municipal police, fire department, and emergency medical services) to ensure all is being done to safeguard the lives of citizens and visitors. Preventive evacuation of residents and tourists began yesterday October 22nd. Some 16 shelters in safe areas around Puerto Vallarta are in operation and buses are continuing evacuations to Guadalajara. The majority of visitors and residents from the Historic Center and the Hotel Zone along Puerto Vallarta’s beaches have been evacuated. The airport is closed until further notice. According to authorities, hurricane Patricia is expected to make landfall south of Puerto Vallarta in the next 6-8 hours.
