Getting Prepared for Hurricane Patricia

As Hurricane Patricia barrels toward Mexican tourist destinations such as Puerto Vallarta and Manzanillo, storm preparedness will be key in keeping guests and employees who have not already evacuated safe. Now the strongest hurricane ever recorded, Category 5 Hurricane Patricia is expected to have 200 mph winds and life-threatening torrential rains. The American Hotel & Lodging Association (AH&LA) has provided tips for preparation and relief efforts.

The AH&LA suggests having a plan in place for evacuation and safety, as well as an emergency supply kit with a radio. To keep track of the storm, subscribe to local emergency alerts via cell phone. Employers can also keep employees in the loop with the use of voicemail or text alerts. Additionally, hotels and resorts should coordinate with local emergency management officials to help with every step of handling a storm, from planning to response to recovery.
