Destination Hotels Adds Quirk Hotel to Portfolio

ENGLEWOOD, Colo.—Destination Hotels has announced the addition of soon-to-open Quirk Hotel, a Destination Hotel, in Richmond, Virginia to its collection. The locally-owned hotel, located in downtown Richmond at 201 West Broad Street and Jefferson Street in the historic J.B. Mosby & Co building, will undergo a comprehensive transformation to become an independent luxury lifestyle hotel under Destination management. Opening in time to coincide with Richmond acting as host city for cycling’s international pinnacle event, World Road Cycling Championships (Worlds) in late-September 2015, the hotel is an extension of the Quirk art gallery on Broad Street in the heart of Richmond’s Arts District. Quirk Hotel will reflect an ambiance characterized by style and art.

“Quirk Hotel is an exciting addition to the Destination Hotels portfolio,” said Jamie Sabatier, president and chief operating officer of Destination Hotels. “Under our management platform and track record of continued success within the urban space, we will provide customized tools to leverage the property’s enriching history and central location in downtown Richmond, an emerging hub of arts and culture.”

“We are thrilled to be able to bring an artistic, distinct, and modern hotel experience to Richmond,” said Ted and Katie Ukrop, owners of Quirk Hotel. “We are determined to provide our future guests of Quirk Hotel with an immersive experience that combines the best of Southern hospitality with the vibrancy of Richmond’s up-and-coming cultural scene.”

Quirk Hotel was originally the luxury department store, J.B. Mosby & Co, constructed in 1916 in the heart of the Broad Street Commercial Historic District, which contains a collection of turn-of-the-century commercial buildings in the city of Richmond. Quirk Hotel will keep architectural elements intact from the historic building, including the main floor’s segmental arches, groin vault ceiling, and the ornamental ironwork staircase. The overall art-centric theme will be reflected throughout the property, from guest rooms that combine historic highlights with contemporary millwork, warm wood floors, and frosted glass shower enclosures to the vaulted lobby to artistic installations that hint back to the former department store manikins and wardrobe style casework. The culinary experience at Quirk Hotel will focus on artisan cuisine, sourced locally with an emphasis on regional culinary traditions. The Quirk Hotel bar will showcase modern adaptations of classic cocktails, small batch spirits and regional craft beers. Quirk Hotel will also feature a fitness center and a 2,000 square feet of unique function space.
