Choice Teams Up with Rebuilding Together for 75th Project

ROCKVILLE, Md.—Choice Hotels International and national nonprofit Rebuilding Together will join forces on May 13 to provide renovations to Parsons Place, a facility run by the Neighborhood Housing Services of Southern Nevada. This project, to be held at the start of Choice’s annual convention in Las Vegas, will be the 75th rebuilding project between the two organizations.

Parsons Place is a 57-unit transitional, three story housing complex run by the Neighborhood Housing Services of Southern Nevada. The focus of Parsons Place is to provide clean, safe, and affordable housing opportunities to adults with no children who are moving out of shelters or “near homeless.”

Nearly 200 volunteers will complete repairs and renovations to the unit bathrooms including installing new medicine cabinets, sink/vanity and faucets. Volunteers will also be giving the facility a fresh coat of paint in the main hallway and each residential unit. Choice Hotels and Rebuilding Together are expected to contribute 800 hours by 200 volunteers to make Parsons Place a healthier place for their clients.

Each person in Parsons Place receives case management to help develop a plan to achieve self-sufficiency and sets a goal to transition from Parsons Place to affordable housing and ultimately to permanent housing and homeownership. Parsons Place has proudly served Las Vegas since 1993 as one of the first transitional housing projects.

“We believe hospitality extends beyond our hotels and into the communities where we live and work. We are all delighted to be giving back to the local community as part of our Annual Convention in Las Vegas,” said Steve Joyce, president and CEO of Choice Hotels International. “2014 is an important milestone for Choice as it marks not only our 75th birthday but also, our 75th project with Rebuilding Together.”

Since the launch of Room to Rebuild in 2009, Choice Hotels and Rebuilding Together have joined forces to renovate 75 homes and nonprofit organizations serving more than 86,000 people nationwide. Room to Rebuild is operated under the auspices of the Choice Hotels International Foundation, whose mission is to provide food, clothing and shelter to those in need, among other philanthropic initiatives.

More than 2,000 Choice Hotels volunteers, including corporate employees and franchisees, have contributed over 12,000 hours to Rebuilding Together projects.

“Through our five-year partnership, Rebuilding Together and Choice Hotels have collaborated on 75 home and neighborhood revitalization projects to make tangible improvements in the health and safety of these homes and community centers,” said Charley Shimanski, president and CEO of Rebuilding Together. “The revitalization of Parsons Place clearly demonstrates how corporate leadership by Choice Hotels, coupled with a strong sense of volunteerism among their employees, is making a positive and lasting difference in Las Vegas and the thousands who will benefit from the renewed facilities. We also want to congratulate our partners at Choice Hotels on celebrating their 75th anniversary.”
