On the Move: This Week’s Comings and Goings

Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group has named Ashish “Alex” Chopra director of development for the U.S. Southwest region. He brings more than 16 years of hotel franchise development and contract negotiation experience to the company. He has worked in development positions with Hilton, Baymont, Ramada, Days Inn, and Howard Johnson. Most recently, he was with Choice Hotels International for more than a decade. Here are more notable job moves that took place this week: Benchmark Hospitality International has announced the appointment of Calvin J. Banks as director of training and development. He brings more than two decades of experience to his new role and was most recently director of training for the Broadmoor in Colorado Springs. Début Hotel Group and Hampshire Hotels Management have selected David Kuperberg to lead the development efforts of the companies’ lifestyle brands. He has been working with Début since 2013. Radisson Hotel Rochester Riverside has named Michael Ellman director of sales and marketing. CSM Names Tony Whiteside Director of Catering

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn.–CSM Corporation has promoted Tony Whiteside to director of catering for Renaissance Minneapolis Hotel, The Depot. “Like many of us in the hospitality industry, Tony has worked his way up through the ranks. His wealth of experience in catering sales, combined with his knowledge of the industry, trends and our customers, make him the ideal person to lead our catering team,” said Lisa Schetinski, director of sales and marketing for Renaissance Minneapolis Hotel, The Depot and Residence Inn Minneapolis Downtown at The Depot. Whiteside joined CSM’s Renaissance Minneapolis Hotel, The Depot in 2002. During that time, he has served in a number of capacities, including catering executive, group sales and catering specialist not only achieving, but exceeding expectations in each role. He continues to excel at client relations, working one-on-one with thousands of customers to ensure successful event planning ranging from corporate meetings, fundraisers, social events, and tradeshows. He has also assumed responsibility for developing and building the hotel’s eight largest accounts. G6 Hospitality has named Mike Brower chief operating officer, effective immediately. A seasoned executive, he has served as executive vice president of operations for the G6 Hospitality brands since 2012. He formed and will continue to serve as the chairman for the Motel 6/Studio 6 Operations Committee. Here is a look at more notable job moves that took place this week: Wyndham Hotel Group has appointed Chip Ohlsson executive vice president and chief development officer, North America. This marks a reunion between Wyndham and Ohlsson, as he had previously spent 10 years of his career with Wyndham in various roles. Charlene Nakamura has been named complex director of sales for Starwood Hotels & Resorts in Waikiki. She most recently served as director of sales and marketing at the Royal Hawaiian. Del Robinette has been promoted to vice president of sales and marketing. Robinette previously held the position of regional director of sales and marketing for the company. Fairmont Chicago Names Executive Sous Chef

CHICAGO, Ill.—Fairmont Chicago, Millennium Park, located at 200 North Columbus Drive, has announced the appointment of Atticus Garant as executive sous chef. With years of experience ranging from his native Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada to the Bahamas, he continues his tenure with the Fairmont brand as he brings his expertise to Chicago. Garant most recently served as executive sous chef at Vancouver’s Fairmont Pacific Rim, having worked his way up the culinary line over the past five years from cook to chef de partie to banquet sous chef and even filling the role of acting executive chef. On the Move: This Week’s Comings and Goings

It was a week of significant career shake-ups in the lodging industry. La Quinta announced that Wayne Goldberg has stepped down from his leadership positions within the company, with Keith Cline, chief financial officer, taking the reins as interim president and chief executive officer, effective immediately. Goldberg had been with the company for 15 years. Belmond Ltd. also made a big change to its executive team this week with the appointment of board member Roeland Vos as the company’s new president and chief executive officer, effective immediately. He succeeds John Scott, who resigned from his position. Previously, Vos served as president of the Europe, Africa, and Middle East division of Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide from 2001 to 2013.
