IHG to Open first Staybridge Suites in Saudi Arabia

JEDDAH, Saudi Arabia—IHG (InterContinental Hotels Group) has signed an agreement with Dyafah Al Mutahida LLC to open a 200-key Staybridge Suites in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. This will be the first Staybridge Suites property, offering an extended stay experience, in Saudi Arabia. Staybridge Suites Hira Street will be developed on a 14,700-square-meter plot and will form part of Dyafah Al Mutahida’s mixed-used development including retail outlets, healthcare facilitie,s and a multi-purpose hall. “With the major expansion to Jeddah’s airport and the boom in real estate construction, Jeddah is becoming an increasingly important commercial hub,” said Mohammed BaGabas, Dyafah Al Mutahida LLC. “With Staybridge Suites, we know we will be delivering a home-from-home environment and high quality service to the discerning business travellers attracted to Jeddah.” The property’s suites will feature interiors designed to create a residential environment and meet the needs of extended-stay guests. Embassy Suites Tuscaloosa Downtown Breaks Ground

MCLEAN, Va.—Embassy Suites Hotels and Kemmons Wilson, Inc. broke ground Monday on Embassy Suites Tuscaloosa Downtown, the first property in the area to feature Design Option III, the brand’s latest design concept. The full service, all-suites hotel will be managed by Wilson Hotel Management Company, a division of Kemmons Wilson Companies. Scheduled to open in the fourth quarter of 2014, the hotel will be the first Embassy Suites in Wilson Hotel Management’s portfolio, bringing 154 suites and more than 5,300 square feet of flexible banquet and meeting facilities to the Tuscaloosa area. While the Tuscaloosa property is the first Embassy Suites hotel for Kemmons Wilson, Inc., the corporation has developed other properties within the Hilton Worldwide portfolio of brands, including Hampton Inn and Suites Orlando-East-Univ. of Central and Hampton Inn and Suites Lake Mary At Colonial Townpark. CHICAGO—Hyatt Hotels Corporation, Aedes Real Estate and UBM Realitätentwicklung AG announced their affiliates have entered into an agreement for a Hyatt Regency hotel in Amsterdam, which is expected to open in 2015. Hyatt Regency Amsterdam will be the first Hyatt Regency hotel and the third Hyatt-branded hotel to open in the city, joining the recently opened Andaz Amsterdam and the late-2013 opening of Hyatt Place Amsterdam Schiphol Airport. The hotel will offer 211 guestrooms, including 15 suites and will feature meeting and ballroom space, a restaurant, a bar and lounge, a fitness center, and a two-treatment-room spa. “The Hyatt Regency brand is a great fit for Amsterdam,” said Peter Norman, senior vice president, real estate and development for Hyatt Hotels and Resorts. “It is one of Europe’s most important commercial centers and the continent’s sixth largest metropolitan area, drawing visitors for both business and leisure. DUBAI—Viceroy Hotel Group announced an important portfolio addition with the 2017 opening of Viceroy Dubai, Palm Jumeirah. The $1 billion dollar endeavor marks the company’s first venture into Dubai and its second in the United Arab Emirates alongside sister property Yas Viceroy Abu Dhabi. Kimpton Announces Plans to Expand Southern California Footprint

SAN FRANCISCO—Kimpton Hotels and Restaurants announced today it will expand its footprint in the Southern California market with the management of a new four-star hotel in Palm Springs. Slated for a 2015 opening, the new construction, luxury hotel will feature 190 rooms and a rooftop bar and pool. Located in the epicenter of the city’s newly revitalized downtown, the hotel will also offer a chef-driven, destination restaurant and more than 24,000 square feet total event and meeting space, as well as views of the Mount San Jacinto State Park. For Kimpton, the new Palm Springs property represents an important expansion of the brand’s presence in Southern California, joining existing hotels in Los Angeles (Hotel Palomar Westwood and the Hotel Wilshire), Santa Barbara (Canary Hotel), and San Diego (Hotel Solamar, Hotel La Jolla, and the Hotel Palomar San Diego).
